A 'double shot of inspiration' for accountants and a 'big family reunion' – just some of the ways our customers and partners described Xerocon London on Twitter last week.

With over 3,000 attendees and 56 different education sessions across 2 days, the show was a celebration of a new world of truly connected finance and accounting.

We're proud to be part of this family of innovators, customers and partners who are changing the face of accounting and finance; and we were thrilled to be named App Partner of the Year for the second year running at the show – a testament to the growth of GoCardless for Xero and the amazing support of our customers and partners.

Give S(ME) some certainty – late payments more concerning than Brexit, say 41% of SMB owners

Late payments are an ongoing battle for SMB owners, but they’re not just a business pain. New GoCardless research has revealed the real human impact of cash flow uncertainty on small business bosses.

Our study of 250 small business owners found that:

  • 56% of UK business owners have had to use personal or emergency finance to pay for business expenses due to late payments.
  • 80% of respondents couldn’t be sure they’ll be able to pay their bills on time due to unpaid invoices negatively impacting cash flow.
  • 89% of business owners say uncertainty around when payments will come in makes them more stressed and anxious.
  • 41% of SMB owners are more concerned with late payments having a negative effect on their business than Brexit.

GoCardless & Xero: A beautiful business love story

When GoCardless launched its first integration with small business cloud accounting platform Xero a few years ago, we knew it was the start of something big. We spent time making a great connection (with a seamless user experience) and we shared the same belief in beautiful business, in streamlining admin and giving small businesses more time back to focus on growth.

And when you put us together, we made more: our users were paid on time, while avoiding manual reconciliation and reducing accounting errors. They could manage payments and billing in once place, saving hours of time on admin.

The rise of the 'Stuck-at-Home' SME

For most people, the August bank holiday is something to look forward to, and prime time for a summer getaway. However, according to our recent survey, this isn’t the case for many SME owners, as 57% admitted to dropping their summer holiday plans, or spending the time they are away chasing late payments.

Nearly two thirds of our 250 respondents agreed that summer is the worst time for collecting payments, with more invoices being paid late during the summer than at any other time of the year.

GoCardless partners with hundreds of software providers to allow businesses to take payment by Direct Debit, and manage other elements of their business through one integrated system.

These integrations span all manner of industries including: accounting, CRM, subscriptions, billing, and membership management. And thousands of merchants are already seeing the benefits that come from integrating Direct Debit through GoCardless with their existing software or integrating GoCardless when they start using a new platform.

A day in the life of Partnerships Success

Who am I?

I’m Rachel and I’m a Partnership Success Manager at GoCardless. I focus on looking after and growing our existing partnerships - other businesses who offer GoCardless to their own customers.

That often means GoCardless has integrated with another software product. For example, I look after our partnership with Xero, which we’ve integrated with to enable small businesses to take Direct Debit payments via their Xero invoices.

I’d worked in partnerships for about six years before joining GoCardless, but always in the charity sector. So while this job is similar, GoCardless is a whole new environment for me.
