If you choose a Standard, Advanced or Pro plan, fees are deducted from your submitted payments. If you arrange a Custom plan with us, you’ll be invoiced monthly instead.

No, for most GoCardless users there are no setup or monthly costs, and there are no hidden fees. You can sign up for free and pay as you go, with fees charged per transaction. Some add-on functionality is billed differently, but this is noted above.

Yes, you can change your plan or close your GoCardless account whenever you like. Our Standard, Advanced and Pro plans are all monthly rolling contracts designed for flexibility.

You can upgrade or downgrade your plan any time directly from your GoCardless dashboard. This must be done at least two working days before the end of the month to come into effect from the 1st of the following month. You'll be charged any applicable fees of your current pricing plan until the change is actioned.

It's the VAT status of a supplier that determines whether VAT is charged, and not the VAT status of the customer. In April 2020, HMRC confirmed GoCardless was providing a VATable service, so we need to charge VAT on all transaction fees invoiced to UK merchants. This applies regardless of whether the business collecting the payment is VAT exempt or not. This is a HMRC decision based on UK VAT law and not something that we have any control over.

You may be eligible to claim back from HMRC the VAT charged on your fees, however we are unable to provide any tax advice and — as tax law can be complex — we recommend consulting with a qualified tax professional if you are unsure how the laws apply to your business.

No, you don't need separate bank accounts to collect international payments with GoCardless. You can collect payments from 40+ countries around the world right into your UK bank account, with currency conversion powered by Wise.

You'll be charged the real mid-market rate, considered to be the fairest exchange rate possible. Unlike banks and most money transfer providers, we don't take a commission on top of this rate. The cost of conversion is covered in our international transaction fee listed above.

If you have a Euro bank account located in the Eurozone, you can collect payments from Eurozone customers into that account to pay European domestic fees instead of international fees.
