To start collecting payments, your customer will need to complete an online Direct Debit form. We offer simple ways to invite new and existing Xero customers by link or editable email.

You’ll be giving customers an easy, one-time set up for all future payments, by asking them to complete a Direct Debit form. This gives you permission to collect money from their bank account.

Each time you create an invoice in Xero you can collect the payment automatically by Direct Debit on the invoice due date. Alternatively, you can manually collect payments for specific customers or by Xero branding themes.
Now that a Direct Debit is in place with your customer, GoCardless will email your customers in advance before every payment is collected.

Once you’ve received a payment, the relevant invoice(s) will be marked as paid with the GoCardless fee posted as an expense automatically.

Yes, GoCardless allows you to collect payments of variable amounts for one-off, ad-hoc or repeating invoices. In the UK the minimum amount for a single transaction is £1 and the maximum is £5000. We may be able to increase this limit with additional verification checks.
GoCardless allows you to brand the online Direct Debit forms and notifications that your customers will see.
Once your customer is charged, the time needed to transfer the money to your account depends on what area your customer is located in. For the UK, the time it takes from your customer being charged to having the money in your account is 2 working days.

If a payment fails GoCardless will notify you via email. You then have the option to login and manually request we take the payment again.
Direct Debit is a one time customer set-up, then they can pay you on an ongoing basis without needing to lift a finger - saving them time and effort. They’ll be notified before every payment, and payments are protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee.
