How it works

Invite your Xero customers to setup a Direct Debit

To start collecting payments, your customer will need to complete an online Direct Debit form. We offer simple ways to invite new and existing Xero customers by link or editable email.

  • Option to automatically invite new customers
  • Add a 'Pay by Direct Debit' button to your invoices

Your customer completes a one-time Direct Debit form

You’ll be giving customers an easy, one-time set up for all future payments, by asking them to complete a Direct Debit form. This gives you permission to collect money from their bank account.

  • Quick online set-up
  • Payment page branded with your logo

Collect payments automatically or manually for any Xero invoice

Frequently asked questions

My invoice amounts vary, can I use this?

Yes, GoCardless allows you to collect payments of variable amounts for one-off, ad-hoc or repeating invoices. In Australia the minimum amount for a single transaction is $1 and the maximum is $10,000. We may be able to increase this limit with additional verification checks.

What control do I have over my branding?

GoCardless allows you to brand the online Direct Debit forms and notifications that your customers will see.

How long do payments take?

Once your customer is charged, the time needed to transfer the money to your account depends on what area your customer is located in. For Australia, the time it takes from your customer being charged to having the money in your account is 3 working days.

How secure is GoCardless?

GoCardless is ISO27001 certified for information security management meaning security protocols across our business, services and products have been audited and certified with this widely recognised international standard. GoCardless is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority.

What happens if a payment fails?

If a payment fails GoCardless will notify you via email. You then have the option to login and manually request we take the payment again.

Why should my customers want to use Direct Debit?

Direct Debit is a one time customer set-up, then they can pay you on an ongoing basis without needing to lift a finger - saving them time and effort. They’ll be notified before every payment, and payments are protected by Customer Claims.
