Getting started as a GoCardless Certified Advisor

So, you’ve done the training, got yourself GoCardless Certified and received your unique Accountant Referral Link...what next? Here’s our simple step by step guide to getting your first client onboarded with GoCardless:

1

Identify the perfect client

We recommend either:

a) A new client – someone you can introduce a valuable service to as you establish your advisor relationship.

b) Someone with a real business issue you can solve. For example, clients who have ongoing cash flow challenges or are always struggling with cheques and bank transfers.

Toolkit: Use our Fit Finder Guide (coming soon) to help you quickly identify which clients will benefit the most from using GoCardless. It helps you profile your customer base by looking at their industry type, their business issues and opportunities to capitalise on.

2

Introduce your client to Direct Debit and GoCardless

Start by explaining what Direct Debit is and how it can help your client’s business.

Toolkit:  Download and copy our template email introducing GoCardless. If your client has any questions or concerns about Direct Debit, check out our FAQs and responses here.

3

Help your client onboard

The first time around it’s probably best to walk your client through the set-up process one to one, so you can put what your learned in training into practice! Ask them to share their screen on a conference call, or run through it in person when you meet.

Tookit: Once they are signed up and have GoCardless connected to their accounting software, send them our video walkthrough to help make sure your client knows exactly how to collect and reconcile payments.

4

Set some goals

Getting customers to change the way they pay can seem like a big task, so break it down into manageable goals.

For example, consider moving all of their standing order customers over to GoCardless. Or perhaps creating a plan to get all of their repeatedly late-paying customers switching to pay via Direct Debit first. Help them work out the impact this will have to their cash flow and get them to commit to a timeframe.

5

Check back in

You’ve done the hard work, now make sure your client sees the value! Add checking their GoCardless set-up to your regular account reviews, and see how they are doing against the goals you set together.

And as always, get in touch with the GoCardless team if you need any help!
