Solutions Engineer

The need to take recurring payments is increasing: it is becoming strategically important, not only for established users of Direct Debit such as utilities, telecoms, and media companies, but also for the latest wave of Software as a Service and Internet of Things providers.

GoCardless is innovating on top of the Bacs network in the UK and equivalents around the world. By making these networks easier to integrate into modern internet services and adding intelligent, powerful and flexible capabilities we are adding value in completely new ways. The ability to work with all of these together through a single integration is a real game changer. GoCardless will continue to disrupt these systems as payment mechanisms continue to evolve.

The role

Working with our sales and partnerships teams you will be the primary technical lead in our engagements with new customers. Whether it is helping design a new integration with one of our Billing or CRM partners that would be used by thousands of their customers, or assisting with the API integration and billing and payment process with a large customer, there is a need for us to take a leading role in technical conversations.

You will help qualify, shape and close new business by providing technical input and oversight on our most exciting new opportunities. Everything from evangelising on the capability of GoCardless, assisting with due diligence on our platform, helping with architecture and integration requirements as well as bringing market insight back to the product organisation will be your responsibility.

Internally you work cross-functionally and will act as a market champion consolidating trends you see in the market that require new enhancements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop a strong working relationship with the customer’s or partner’s technical staff and be able to gain their trust and credibility through deep technical knowledge and subject matter expertise.
  • Manage and lead the customer or partner throughout the evaluation process and ensure a deal’s technical close.
  • Work closely with the Account Executive or Partnerships Development Manager to align the technical requirements and the solution design with the customer’s or partner’s business drivers and demonstrate unique value.
  • Working with the Product team to deliver product presentations and demonstrations tailored to customer’s or partner’s requirements and tuned to suit the level and nature of the audience working with your peers in sales, product and marketing.
  • Develop proofs of concept (PoCs) with a clear plan to take a prospect successfully through the evaluation process and turn them into a happy customer or partner.
  • Coordinate and deliver RFP/I/Q responses and technical architecture solutions

Who we're looking for

  • Solution / Sales Engineer experience with the necessary communication and technical skills to connect with and establish trust and credibility with prospective customers and operate in a commercially sensitive part of our sales cycle.
  • Good hands-on development experience with at least one programming language like Java, JavaScript, Python, PHP and other languages commonly used on the internet.
  • Experience building and delivering proofs of concept (PoCs) independently and effectively.
  • Good working functional knowledge of enterprise software solutions preferred, e.g. ERP, CRM, Billing.
  • The ability to lead architecture discussions around deployment topologies, scaling, performance, and sizing.
  • High proficiency in written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills.
  • Experience with customer-facing activities and influencing key decision makers.
