New Business Development Representative

Drive GoCardless’s global growth.

At GoCardless we are looking to scale from processing $1 billion a year to over $10 billion worldwide. Our vision is to create a global payments network, making payments simpler on the internet no matter what country you're in.

We're looking for bright, ambitious people to join our talented New Business Development team and accelerate our growth in the UK and across Europe.

The role

The Business Development team at GoCardless sits within our sales function and combines deep product expertise, in-depth knowledge of the payments industry, and a consultative approach to reach out to and work with organisations operating across the UK and Europe.

Working closely with business and product leaders across GoCardless, the NBD team work to uncover and define our best growth opportunities, including new merchants, partners, verticals, and growth strategies. Recent focus areas have involved close work in the utilities and telecoms sectors, financial services and the subscription economy.

We generate new opportunities a little differently at GoCardless. There will be no cold calling and instead a more consultative and targeted approach is taken. The NBD team is focussed on developing large enterprise opportunities for GoCardless so a deep understanding of our target markets and prospects is essential to succeed.You'll implement outbound facing activites to reach new merchants and be the first point of contact before passing qualified opportunities on to our team of Enterprise Account Executives.

Training for the position will involve a 4 week structured program split across both our NBD team as well as our Sales Development team. The program will give you an in depth overview of the product, how we reach out to enterprise-level merchants, and a detailed understanding of how we fit into the wider payments industry.

What we're looking for

  • Previous experience within a sales environment or a top consultancy, or recent graduates with commercial or technical backgrounds.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to use a wide range of resources to come to clear conclusions and recommendations.
  • An ability to understand our API and build great relationships with highly technical customers.
  • A passion for technology, the startup community, and supporting other businesses as they grow.
  • The motivation and flexibility to work well in a rapidly changing, high-growth environment.
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills.
